Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences Research Centre was founded in 2001 in Bangalore, Karnataka with the intention of delivering high quality education, research and training facilities into the hands of the aspiring medical practitioners. The vision of the inception of the medical institute and the hospital was to provide affordable and highly expertise delivery of healthcare facilities. The different medical and diploma course (s) in medicine are validated by the National Medical Commission or NMC, Dental Council of India of DCI and World Health Organization or WHO. It is also affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Passing candidates are granted medical degrees and diplomas from NMC, DCI and RGUHS. The attached hospital of the college offers free tertiary medical facilities to the destitute.
Admission Procedure of the Medical College
The college is famous for its international-standard-level courses with many specializations in Medicine, Surgery, Forensic Medicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Dermatology, Physiology, etc. Admission to a 5 and half years’ MBBS course including 1 year’s internship is made on the basis of prior academic records and Common Entrance Test, KRLMPCA score. This is followed by Centralized Counseling. For applying to undergraduate medical courses, students must have a minimum of 50 marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English in the higher secondary examination and have obtained NEET Qualified. The minimum age of a medical student needs to be 17 years as of December 31st of the academic year of MBBS admission. The Pre-University Course examination has to be certified by RGUHS. Students for MBBS course are admitted every year in the college by the number of 250 under the rule of NMC. NRI or foreigner category allocates 15% of the whole seats.
Academic and Practical Training Methods
Mentoring within education and practical training approaches are as good as any system of universal standards. The emphasis on intensive and extensive exposures of students in any undergraduate and postgraduate course is highlighted. Meticulous practice, as per the guidelines of NMC, DCI and RGUHS, is carried out by intellectual lectures, an introduction to intensive care medicine and pain, Anesthesiology clinic, performance procedural training in Operation Theatres and Intensive Care units. Interactive tutorials, case study presentations, intensive-thinking sessions, problem solving skills training, are all part of the curriculum. Integrated and inter-departmental conferences and seminars are conducted regularly. National and international workshops and internal assessments are implicitly incorporated into the course. Student exchange programs give a global platform for the medical candidates.
Infrastructural Facilities
The 1600-bedded teaching hospital, college-attached to the teaching hospital, has been equipped with super-specialised, digitalized laboratories and operation theatres for carrying out a wide variety of investigations in pathology, pharmacology, anaesthesia, medicine, forensic medicine, etc. The hospital provides primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services. Cancer treatments are provided at very low costs in the hospital. Large auditoriums, well-stocked libraries, refurbished computer labs, internet access, seminar room, auditorium, community centre, sports centre, hostel and mess facilities, cultural facilities, ATMs, many of which to enhance and facilitate dissemination of top notch educational services to students. The college strives to provide an integrated medical learning and practice including rural as well as in urban settings. Many extra-curricular, literary, cultural and sports activities contribute to the rounded education of students. The university has significant international partnerships with University of Georgia and University of California. CME seminars and workshops are an important part of the course curriculum. VI MS RC workshops are run with senior students, in cooperation with Harvard Medical International.
Faculty and Fees Structure
The teaching body is comprised of recognized medical physicians, actively participating in a number of intensive and extensive research studies in current medicine and modern surgery in the hi-tech college laboratories. The majority of the lecturers are well renowned experts in their own background Pre-Clinical, Para Clinical and Clinical fields. The computerized laboratories are standardly equipped with a wide range of investigations that can be performed with modern diagnostic equipment and so on. The department of medicine also offers a significant number of research papers and journals in different medical publications both nationally and internationally. The annual tuition fee for MBBS is Rs. 6,95,000, approximately, which may vary depending upon the actions of the college authority and RGUHS.
