Dr. B.R. To give quality health care education, research and training facilities to health care professionals to cope with the growing health issues in the society, Ambedkar Medical College was founded in the year 1981 at Karnataka. Different medical degree [courses] have acquired accreditation from the National Medical Commission or NMC Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Passing candidates receive medical degrees and diplomas from these two agencies. The medical college, affiliated college hospital, School of Nursing, College of Nursing and Paramedical Institute are all managed by Ananada Social and Education Trust. More than 3,000 students have received college training and mentoring and are now professionally successful medical doctors that, practicing around the world. Postgraduate studies in 18 subjects started in the college year 1992.
Admission Procedure of the Medical College
The institution is celebrated for its department of courses having a wide range of specializations in Medicine, Surgery, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Anatomy etc. Admission to a 5.5-year MBBS course with one year internship training is dependent on the students’ academic records (CET or COMED-K Entrance Test scores) and academic performance records. Scholarship is awarded to those students whose excellent past academic record and entrance test are given by the excellence committees. Candidates must possess minimum 50% marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English in the higher secondary examination and have NEET qualified for admission in undergraduate programmes. Residence in other states than Karnataka and you will have to procure an eligibility certificate from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
Academic and Practical Training Methods
Mentoring in education and practical training methods are comparable to that of any international standard. Intense exposure is stressed for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Thorough instruction, following the guidelines of National Medical Commission and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, is carried out by way of educative lectures, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation practice, introduction to intensive care medicine and pain management, Anaesthesia practice, Anaesthesia clinics, performance of procedural training in Operational Theatres and Intensive care Units. Interactive tutorials, case study discussions, brainstorming sessions and problem solving skills training are among the components of the curriculum. Integrated and inter-departmental conferences and seminars are conducted regularly. Contemporary medicine and surgical practices are accorded appropriate importance.
Infrastructural Facilities Offered
The super-specialized laboratory and operation theater facilities which are housed at the college-based hospital, are used in an outcome-oriented manner to handle a wide variety of investigations at the Pathology, Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine etc. The college hospital is sufficiently equipped with 600 beds with critical care units. The college building can certainly be proud of its magnificent appearance, designed administrative area, state-of-the-art OPD block, trust office, and other departments. With spacious halls of learning and language lab, well-stocked libraries, modern computer lab/resourced labs, Wi-Fi, seminar hall, auditorium, community centre, sports complex, hostel and mess housing, cultural activity centre, Internet and ATM/travel desk and many other facilities to facilitate dissemination of out-of-the-box educational services. There are electronic databases as well and RGUHS is affiliated to HELINET syndicate through the library.
Faculty and Fees Structure
The staff are outstanding clinical doctors who are critically engaged in many intensive research projects at the cutting edge of medicine in the college laboratories. The majority of the professors are well-established specialists in their own fields such as General Surgery, Pediatrics, General Medicine, Biochemistry, Dermatology, Community Medicine, Anatomy, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Gen-Medicine etc. The department of medicine offers a multitude of research articles and journals in the different medical publications both at national and international levels. The annual tuition fees for MBBS is Rs. 1,00,000, which may vary and is at the discretion of the college administration, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
