Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College was founded in 1989 at Kolhapur, Maharashtra, with the aim of offering quality healthcare teaching, research and training in facilities to medical practitioners. The founding vision of the medical institute and hospital was to deliver low cost and expert medical facilities. The medical college is a constituent unit of D.Y. Patil Education Society. The status of university was conferred upon the institution by UGC in 2005. The different medical diploma and degree courses are provided to the affiliation of the National Medical Commission or NMC and Ministry of Human Resources Development, India. The multiple national and international associations of medical college give students a global perspective and an arena for implementing medicine.
Admission Procedure of the Medical College
The college is well known for its courses with many specializations in as Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Forensic Medicine, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy, and Psychiatry etc. Candidates should have a minimum of 50% marks in Biology, Chemistry and Physics and English in higher secondary level examination and must be NEET Qualified for getting admission into the undergraduate medical courses. It has to be at least 17 yr old (on or before year of admission) for an undergraduate medical student. College has been allowed by NMC, to admit a maximum of 250 students per year, for MBBS courses. 15% of seats are reserved for NRI or NRI sponsored and foreign nationals.
Academic and Practical Training Methods
Teaching mentoring in education and skills training techniques are in the range of the highest level international thought. Intensive and extensive exposures of students in any undergraduate and post graduate course are stressed upon. Perceiving the strict practice according to NMC guidelines involves pedagogical lecture, CPR training, introduction to intensive care medicine and pain, Introduction to Anesthesiology, clinic of Anesthesiology, procedural performance training in Operation Theatre and Intensive Care Units.
