Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College was founded in the year 1996 at Pune, Maharashtra, an institution that conducts quality healthcare education, research, and training programmes for medical practitioners. The aim of the medical institute and hospital vision was to offer low cost and high level of expertise health facility service. The University status was given to the institution by UGC on 11th January, 2003. Medical degree and diploma courses are recognized in the National Medical Commission or NMC, Maharashtra Human Resource Development, World Health Organization or WHO, Malaysian Medical Council and Malaysian Government. The students get a wide range of national and international affiliations of medical college, allowing them, a global exposure and the space for applying their knowledge in their practice. The medical institution has “A Grade” accreditation from NAAC India, for its sustained teaching and research quality parameters.
Admission Procedure of the Medical College
The university is famous among its students and public for its courses that have many specializations in the field of Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Forensic Medicine, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy and Psychiatry etc. Admission to 5 and a half-year’s MBBS curriculum, which includes 1-year’s internship, is made on the basis of earlier academic records and the All-India Entrance Test (AIET). Candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English in the higher secondary examination and NEET Qualified for admission to undergraduate medical courses. Scholarship is awarded to high achieving students, who are selected on the basis of their academic record in past studies and AIET (air institute of technology). The youngest age limit for an undergraduate medical student must be 17 years before the year of admission (on or before the year of admission). The allocation of 250 students per annum to MBBS programmes is authorized by NMC. 15% of seats are given to NRI, sponsored, NRI and foreign passengers.
Academic and Practical Training Methods
Mentoring approaches in education and practical training practices are similar to those of the rest of the world. The importance of both intensive and extensive exposures of students in any undergraduate/postgraduate course of study is stressed. The rigorous practice under the policies and regulation of NMC is carried out via edifying lecture, CPR training module, exposure to intensive care medicine and pain, Anesthesiology clinic, simulated procedural training in Operation Theatres and Intensive Care Units. Interactive tutorials, case study presentations, brain-storming, problem-solving skills training are all part of the curriculum. Regularly, conference and seminar organized in integrated and interdepartmental format and national and international workshops are hosted. Studies of current medicine and surgical intervention are also afforded much attention. Routine internal assessments are performed to evaluate the understanding and application of medical processes by the students.
Infrastructural Facilities Offered
The college-based 1290-bedded teaching hospital and research centre, super-specialised, digitalized laboratories and 18 operation theatres are provided for conducting multifarious investigations in Pathology, Pharmacology, Orthopedics, Radio Diagnosis, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics and Anaesthesia, etc. Large lecture halls, well-equipped library and museum, computer lab renovation, Internet access, audio-video assisted seminar halls, auditorium, community centres, sports complex, hostel and mess facilities, cultural centre, ATM etc., for the purpose of disseminating excellent educational services to students. Based on the performance of college students the quality of training and infrastructural facilities of the college are clearly reflected.
Faculty and Fees Structure
The staff is drawn from professors who are highly active in many intensive and large research projects in contemporary medicine and modern surgical methods in the hi-tech college laboratories. Most of the teachers are well known experts in their own areas of pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical specialty.The digitally modernized laboratories are fully equipped for handling all kinds of examinations with Radiography, CT scanner, Mammography, 0.2T MRI, Ultra-sonography, Color Doppler, 2D Echo, Renal Dialysis Machine etc. The department of medicine offers a range of research papers and journals published in various medical publications on national and international levels. The annual tuition fee for MBBS is Rs. About 22,00,000 (approximately, subject to change at the discretion of the college administration).
