The Himalayan Institute (Jolly Grant)Hospital Trust is located at the foot of the Himalayas in the Garhwal region near Dehradun. The institute is built to benefit this area’s population of millions who suffer from distinct medical, economic and social demands. The focus of the HIHT institute is to lead to an efficient and whole-of-society cost-effective and integrated solution to healthcare and to country development, and particularly so for the marginalized group of the country (i.e. A bed of 250 patients hospital started functioning in the year 1994, having begun as a small OPD in the year 1989. Soon after, construction of the medical college began. The college is endorsed by the National Medical Commission and the Government approved the establishment of the medical college in 1996.

Goal of the Institute and the Process of Admission

The institute aspires to excellence in the domains of teaching, research and dissemination of knowledge with increased self-awareness, in order to build an empathetic, transcultural, globalized society. It aims to facilitate and nurture the environment for logical enquiry, innovation, research and commitment through the lifelong quest for knowledge and through selfless service. The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a four and half year course. The college takes 100 students into the program every year and they enter through an India level Pre Medical Entrance Examination (PMEE) in the month of May. The candidate must not be less than 17 years of age old on the 31st of December in the admission year.

Criteria for Admission and Fees

Applicants studying at college are required to have passed 10+2 ISC/Intermediate examination and/or its equivalent, having studied for 12 years. The remaining 2 years of the course should include Physics, Chemistry and Biology with English up to the level of an accepted board or university and the whole should be passed in all the subjects. Candidates should secure Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately with a minimum of 60% (50%for SC/ST/OBC candidates) marks total together in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with a minimum of 50% (45%for SC/ST/OBC candidates) total marks individually in each of the subjects in the qualifying examination. Those candidates who pass the test need to take the entrance examination with their related documents. The tuition fee of the medical education facility is about Rs 9,80,000 per year, which has to be payment in demand draft cash at Himalayan Institute, Dehradun.
