Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College was formed in 1963 at Belgaum, Karnataka with a view to deliver quality health care education, research and training facilities to medical practitioners. The vision of the inception of the medical institute and the hospital was to provide affordable and highly expertise delivery of healthcare facilities. The college becomes a constituent unit of the Deemed KLE University. Different medical degree and diploma courses are recognised by the National Medical Commission or NMC, World Health Organization or WHO and Malaysian Medical Council. The different national and international affiliations of the medical college give students the opportunity of exposure at national and international levels and stage for the clinical practices. JNMC was listed among the top 20 medical colleges of India in the year 2007.

Admission Procedure of the Medical College

The institute is famous for subjects having different specialisation in the area of Medicine, surgery, Radio Diagnosis, Orthopedics, pediatrics, pathology, Ophthalmology, neurology, Obstetrics, and urology etc. Admission to a five and half years’ MBBS course along with one year internship training times is also based on the earlier academic transcript. Scholarship is awarded to high achieving students on the basis of their records of previous academic performance. Candidates should possess at least 50% marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English in an HSS examination and NEET Qualified for admission to the undergraduate medical courses. A student must be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the MBBS admission year.

Academic and Practical Training Methods

Mentoring in education and vocational training practices are no different from the best practice in the world. Intensive and/or extensive exposures of students in any undergraduate and post graduate course are highlighted. Strict practice according to the NMC guidelines is carried out through educative lectures, Central Physiology and Burns Training modules, Introduction to inteneiv care medicine and the paing of inteneiv care medicine, Anesthesiology clinic, procedural performance training in Operation Theatres, and working in Intensive Care Units. Interactive tutorials, case study presentations, brainstorming boxes, problem-solving skills training, all form part of the curriculum. Integrated and inter-departmental conferences and seminars are conducted regularly. Research on modern medicine and surgical techniques is also given a proper amount of importance. JNMC has associated with different National International organizations such as ICMR, WHO, University of Illinois, University of Missouri Kansas City for providing quality training research.

Infrastructural Facilities Offered

There is a 1000-bedded charitable hospital (JNMC) along with 1250-bedded facility (KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital Medical Research Centre). The teaching hospital attached to the college is provided with super-specialised and digitalised laboratories and operation theatres for the conduct of a range of studies in the Department of Pathology, Pharmacology, Orthopedics, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Anaesthesia and other subjects. Well-equipped lecture halls, well-stocked libraries, advanced computer labs, Internet capability, seminar rooms, auditorium, community center, sports center, hostel and mess facility, cultural centre, ATM many more with the objective to provide state-of-the-art education facilities to students.

Faculty and Fees Structure

Faculty are renowned medical clinicians who actively participate in a number of intensive and large-scale studies in modern medicine and new developments in surgery in the hi-tech college laboratories. Teaching faculty are mainly world-class specialists in the field of their own Pre-clinical, Para clinical and Clinical disciplines. The digitalized labs are well-furnished to carry out different investigations on radiography, CT scan, mammography, MRI scan, ultra-sonography etc. The department of medicine publishes a large number of research articles and journals either locally or internationally covering medical publications. The annual tuition fee for MBBS is Rs. 4,00,000 approximately, which is subject to change based on the decisions of the college administration and KLE University.
