Mahatma Gandhi Mission’s Medical College was founded in 1989 at Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra with the objective of imparting quality teaching of medicine, its research and training to medical practitioners. It was the aim of the vision of the inception of the medical institute and the hospital to deliver good quality, yet low cost and with a high level of expertise, healthcare facilities. The institution is a Constituent (a) unit of MGM Institute of Health Sciences, which has been given Deemed University status by UGC. Different medical degree and diploma courses are recognized by National Medical Commission or NMC and World Health Organization or WHO. However, through its various national, state and international affiliations, the medical college equips the student towards acquiring an international lens and an opportunity to explore the practice of medicine.

Admission Procedure of the Medical College

The college is famous for its courses including a range of specializations in Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Forensic Medicine, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy and Psychiatry etc. Admission to 5 and a half years’ MBBS course inclusive of one year’s internship period is based on the previous academic records and MGM Common Entrance Test (CET) performance. Students must possess a minimum of 50% marks in all subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English) in the higher secondary examination and be NEET Qualified for admission to the undergraduate medical courses. Scholarship to deserving students is awarded on the basis of their past academic record and MGM CET performance. The young age limit for an undergraduate medical student is 17, latest on or before the year of registration. According to NMC, the college has been given permission to take a maximum of 150 students each admission year for MBBS programs. 15% of seats are reserved for NRI or NRI sponsored and foreign nationals.

Academic and Practical Training Methods

Mentoring in education and vocational training pr ocesses is comparable with international norm. The importance of intensive and extensive exposures of students to any undergraduate or postgraduate programme is stressed. Rigorous practice guided by NMC is carried out through educative lectures, CPR training sessions, intensive care medicine and pain, Anesthesiology clinic, performance procedural training in Operation Theatres as well as Intensive Care Units. Interactive tutorials, case study presentations, brain-storming, problem-solving training and so on are included in the academic plan. Regular Integrated and interdepartmental case conferences and seminars, national and international workshops are\ organized. Research in modern medicine and surgical practices is also given important respect. Periodic internal examinations are performed to test the students’ knowledge and application of medical process.

Infrastructural Facilities

College based 800-bedded teaching hospital and research centre is provisioned with super-specialized, digitized, NABL-certified labs and modular OT for multi-disciplinary investigations in field of Microbiology, Hematology, Biochemistry, Cytology, HIV, Histopathology etc. The Navi Mumbai campus has the facility of, wide lecture hall, well-equipped library and museums, computer labs, Internet, audio-video aided seminar rooms, auditorium, community centre, sports centre, hostel and mess facility, cultural activity centre, ATM, and so on to provide top class educational services to the students. Training quality/infrastructural facilities of the college is reflected in the world class superior performance of the college students.

Faculty and Fees Structure

Faculty comprises highly distinguished medical specialists, who are actively engaged in a number of intensive and long-standing research activities, within the fields of modern medicine and contemporary surgery, in the hi-tech college laboratories. Generally, the professors are well-known experts in their own Pre-Clinical, Para Clinical and Clinical domains. Digitalized laboratories are fully equipped for different investigations by Radiography, CT scan, Mammography, MRI, Ultra-sonography, ELISA Reader, Dialysis unit, Blood gas Analyzer etc. The department of medicine has a number of research articles and journal papers in different fields of medical publications, both within and across international borders. The annual tuition fee for MBBS is Rs. Approximately 20,00,000, which are also subject to change depending on the approvals of the college authorities.
