Shri B.M. Patil Medical College was set up in 1986 at Bijapur, Karnataka, for delivering the quality of healthcare education, research and training facilities to the future medical practitioners. There is approval by the National Medical Commission or NMC, as agreed to Sri Lanka Medical Council for various medical undergraduate and post graduate degree and diploma courses. It is affiliated to BLDE University. Passing candidates are conferred medical degrees and diplomas from NMC and BLDE. The college is included in the WHO directory of Medical Schools and an IMED FAIMER. The college hospital health system offers full-range health care to the poor.
Admission Procedure of the Medical College
The university is well known for the international standard-level courses with a plethora of specializations in Medicine, Surgery, Forensic Medicine, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Community Medicine, Physiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology etc. Admission to 5.5-year MBBS course including one year mandatory rotating internship is on the basis of the past academic record and the performance of BLDEU-UGET Entrance Test. Students must have minimum 50% marks in Biology, Chemistry and Physics and English in higher secondary examination and must have qualified for NEET, to apply for admission in the undergraduate medical courses. The minimum age of a student should be 17 years on December 31 before he/she commences the MBBS intake year. Pre-University Course examination has to be validated by BLDEU. Annual intake is 150 students for MBBS course in accordance with the NMC and UGC guidelines. NRI or foreign category occupies 15% of the available seats.
Academic and Practical Training Methods
Mentoring and practical training approaches are on par with any international recommendations. Intensive and total exposures of students that take place at any undergraduate and postgraduate programme are underlined. Meticulous practice, in accordance with NMC, UGCand BLDEU, is performed with the help of intellectual lectures, introduction to intensive care medicine and pain, Anesthesiology clinic, performance procedural training in Operation Theatres and Intensive Care Units. Interactive tutorials, case presentation, intensive-thinking workshops, problem-solving skill development programmes and so on are all included in the programme. Integrated and inter-departmental conferences and seminars are conducted regularly. Informal bids for national and international workshops and internal assessments are implicitly present in the curriculum.
Infrastructural Facilities Offered
The college-based 1000-beded teaching hospital, which is run by a collegeaffiliated super-specialized digitalized laboratory and operation theatre, is made to cater to a wide range of investigation facilities in the fields of Pathology, Medicine, surgery, pharmacology, Anesthesiology, Medicine, Forensic Medicine etc. Spacious hi-tech labs, well equipped department wise libraries, computer lab, networking, department wise seminar halls and museums with large number of specimens, Central Research Laboratory, department wise laboratory, sports complex, department wise modern demonstration rooms, hostels mess facilities, cafeteria, gymnasium, animal house, cultural activity centre, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and others to render world class education service to students. The college strives to deliver a total medical education and its application in rural as well as urban contexts. Several extra-curricular, literary, cultural and sports activities have been employed to fully develop students. Student Counseling Centre and Anti-Ragging Department, make very careful management and care for effective running of the students and the college.

Generally, the faculty is well-respected, top specialists in their areas of Pre-Clinical, Para Clinical and Clinical field(s). The college-attached hospital is well-equipped with the most modern equipments, such as 6 Slice CT Scan, 1.5 Tesla MR1 Scan, 3D Color Doppler etc. The department of medicine offers a lot of research papers and journals in different areas of medical literature at both national and international levels. The annual tuition fee for MBBS is Rs. Around 17,00, 00,000 which is under the purview of modification pending on the decisions of the college management as well as BLDEU.
